I posted a reel a couple of weeks back suggesting that eating enough protein as a vegan or someone following a plant-based lifestyle is more challenging than when you’re eating animal protein! Well, the drama unfolded pretty swiftly (haha) and I was told off by the plant-based eaters that it was indeed ‘easy’ to meet our protein needs – I was clearly just not smart enough to make it happen! (Side note: I must tell you that I’ve learnt not to get offended by other’s opinions – I actually found this thread rather amusing)
In all honestly – I find eating enough protein (of any kind) a challenge – and so do the majority of the thousands of ladies that I’ve coached over the years. So, I don’t know why it would be so crazy and insulting to say that dwindling down our protein sources to only plant-based options would make this increasingly challenging. It is logical to me – but perhaps apparently hurtful to others.
That aside, before I get even more edamame beans thrown at me – I totally respect and admire those who choose to live a plant-based lifestyle. I think there are so many positives to making this choice for one’s health and the planet. So, I am by no means bashing anyone or their personal preferences.
So now that ya know the back story – I decided to challenge myself to a full day of plant based eating – to see if I could reach my daily protein intake while sticking to my daily calorie budget!!
